James Blum, MD

Dr. Blum is an Investigator for Center for Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) at the Iowa City VA, Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, and chief medical information officer for University of Iowa Health Care.

Trained as a computer scientist, Dr. Blum’s entered medicine in hopes of improving healthcare though data analysis and machine learning. His research interests have centered around the study of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and sepsis. His underlying passion for innovation and utilizing technology to improve health care delivery serves as motivation that brings him to work every day.
