Amy O'Shea, PhD, MS

Dr. O’Shea is an Investigator with the Center for Access & Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) and the VA Office of Rural Health (ORH), Veterans Rural Health Resource Center-Iowa City (VRHRC-IC), as well as an Assistant Research Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (https://medicine.uiowa.edu/internalmedicine/profile/amy-oshea).

  • Principal Investigator on the ORH-funded Rural Health Career Development Award to evaluate broadband availability and social determinants of health impacting the use of VA primary care delivered in-person or via telemedicine (i.e., telephone or video).
  • Works in collaboration with the VHA Primary Care Analytics Team to assess the use of the Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) with access to care metrics, including established and new patient wait times, timely care, and third next available measures.

Dr. O’Shea has expertise in health services research, the VA electronic medical record, broadband availability and its impact on telemedicine, and biostatistics. Her primary research focuses on improving healthcare access for Veterans, especially those living in rural or underserved locations, by studying social determinants of health, barriers to healthcare access, and the development of interventions designed to improve healthcare delivery thru virtual care.
