Dr. Perencevich is the Center Director and a Core Investigator with CADRE. Dr. Perencevich is an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist studying emerging pathogens and nosocomial infections. His research focuses on the transmission dynamics of nosocomial pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Clostridium difficile and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). He is particularly interested in identifying the most effective and cost-effective methods for controlling these pathogens. He is working on mathematical models of MRSA transmission in ICU, hospital and city populations. He is working on developing prediction rules for cost-effective identification of MRSA and VRE carriage on hospital admission. He is currently funded through the VA Health Services Research & Development’s Merit award. Dr. Perencevich has over 85 publications in peer-reviewed journals and was the lead author on a national guideline recommending methods for determining the economic impact of infection control interventions.
