MAA    University of Maryland, 1998

Dr. Heather Schacht Reisinger is a Core Investigator at CADRE. She is also the Associate Director of Engagement, Integration and Implementation at the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) and the Associate Professor of General Internal Medicine Division at University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Reisinger is a medical anthropologist who also completed post-doctoral work in epidemiology and biostatistics. Currently, she is the PI on a VA HSR&D-funded CREATE project to reduce the MRSA and hospital-acquired infections more broadly. She serves as the Implementation Specialist for the Virtual Specialty Care QUERI (Fortney, PI) and is the Lead of the TeleICU Evaluation for the Office of Rural Health. Her areas of expertise include ethnography, qualitative methods, and mixed methods; implementation research; infection prevention and control; and telemedicine. Her background in anthropological methods prepared her well to work with interdisciplinary teams to study how healthcare systems can most effectively improve access and patient safety. Prior to overseeing her own projects, Dr. Reisinger led qualitative components on several multi-site VA and non-VA studies on topics including drug use trends, substance abuse treatment, smoking cessation, hypertension, MI and ACS, and deployment among Reserves and National Guard service members. Dr. Reisinger is a Fellow of the Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA), chaired the Society for Medical Anthropology Meeting in Spring 2014, has served on the SfAA Annual Meeting Program Committee for the past 3 years (2014-2016), and was recently elected to the SfAA Board of Directors.
