DATa and Information Systems Core

The Data and Information Systems (DAT) Core plays a role in many stages of project development and management for HSR&D.  Project initiation activities include creation of privacy and data security plans coand assessing technical feasibility and data availability.  Data acquisition involves managing DART requests and other data use agreements, programming of primary data collection tools and recruitment databases, data builds and assembly, and other data management activities.  The DAT Core also supports data analysis by providing data dictionaries, documentation and descriptive statistics.  Additional activities include the creation of dynamic recruitment and enrollment reports, geocoding and mapping, natural language processing support, designing and programming clinical dashboards, and website/SharePoint development.  The DAT core also performs additional administrative functions including liaising with Information Security, Privacy, and the Office of Information and Technology to ensure VA data and privacy standards are met and that specialized Research software remains licensed and operational.  We provide support for VA file storage, software licensing, new computer accounts, new user training, and also triage all IT issues for HSR&D.  The DAT Core has 4 full-time employees and a part-time contractor, combined together we have over 65 years of experience working with VA data and information systems.
